E terifiiant sentimentul mortii, dar in accelasi timp te responsabilizeaza, filtreaza gandurile eliminand tot ceea ce nu este necesar, te face sa masori valoarea fiecarui cuvant pe care il spui, fiecarei actiuni pe care o faci, si conform acestui nou etalon proiectul pe care trebuie sa-l predai, seful antipatic, masina stricata, rata la banca sau lipsa banilor nu au nici o valoare.

Problema este ca noi nu traim cu aceasta constiinta a mortii, pentru cei mai multi dintre noi « traieste ca si cum maine ar fi ultima zi » este doar o fraza din discursul motivational a vreunui trezit-peste-noapte psihoterapeut, suna bine, suna « cool », suna de pus la status pe facebook dar nimeni nu o traieste. Putinii oameni ce au trait acest sentiment au fost pusi in fata mortii si atunci pentru ei « traieste ca si cum maine ar fi ultima zi din viata ta » nu mai este o fraza inteligenta din vreun roman best-seller, ci devine o realitate cotidiana. Pentru acesti putini oameni singurul lucru care exista este prezentul, asa cum de altfel ar trebui sa fie pentru noi toti. Nu asteptati sa fiti pusi in situatii extreme ca sa incepeti sa traiti si voi asa, ci pastrati mereu in minte ca si o meditatie gandul acesta « asta ar putea fi ultimul lucru pe care il fac, merita? ».

In Periprava ajungi tare greu. Noi am ales sa ajungem pe uscat, traversand padurea Letea. Stiam ca o sa-mi placa acolo din dimineata cand asteptam in Sulina, o masina care sa mearga in Rosetti. Cu noi astepta o lipovanca din Sulina care ne privea mirata : " mai copii de ce vreti sa mergeti acolo, acolo nici dracul nu merge?". Deci vreau musai sa merg acolo!

In momentul in care am coborat din masina am simtit o liniste si o bucurie teribila in suflet, ma simteam acasa. Intr'un singur alt loc ma mai simt asa, in raiul meu de la Dubiusca. Periprava e un loc unde simplitatea iti umple mintea si te lasa sa te bucuri de orice lucru marunt. La amiaza totul era amortit de caldura, oamenii se adaposteau in case, noi umblam pe ulitele de nisip, cu ochi si suflete de copil. Ma bucuram de fiecare casuta din stuf, de lumina amiezii, de nisipul din picioare, si de locul pe care l-am gasit langa lac, unde ne-am gasit linistea.

La 5 dimineata satul era intr-un zgomot mai mare ca niciodata. Pornea vaporul spre Tulcea pe bratul Chilia. Eram infrigurata si foarte trista, lasam in urma un rasarit incredibil si un sat peste care s-a lasat praful timpului.

Universul ne indeplineste dorintele cu cateva conditii

1. Sa perseverezi in dorinta. Deseori renuntam la un vis aproape inainte sa-l fi atins. Nici un lucru de valoare nu se obtine fara efort iar piedici vor exista mereu.

2. Sa fie enuntata cat mai simplu si mai concret. De exemplu, sa ajung in Peru la anu. Universul nu poate primi mesaje de la o minte in care gandurile sunt haotice. Greu sa indeplinesti o dorinta cuiva care nu stie ce isi doreste, nu-i asa ? Cu toate astea, mereu Dumnezeu e de vina ca noua nu ni se intampla lucruri bune J.

3. Sa crezi in indeplinirea dorintei cu toata inima ta si sa nu emiti indoieli de genu «dar nu este posibil asa ceva ». Absolut orice e posibil. Ce nu e cu putinta la om, e cu putinta la Dumnezeu.

4. Sa ai o inima usoara cand ceri asta. Daca inima ti-e apasata sau ai indoilei inseamna ca nu iti doresti cu adevarat asta, sau undeva exista o contradictie. Gaseste contradictia intre minte si spirit. O dorinta adevarata iti provoaca o emotie pozitiva si in nici un caz nu o stare de neliniste.

5. Sa ai rabdare. Daca nu se indeplineste imediat inseamna ca nu e momentul potrivit si nu esti inca pregatit pentru asta. Nu lua lucrurile personal, gandeste-te ca alte 6 miliarde de oameni au si ei la randul lor mii de dorinte. Tatal meu mereu imi spunea: stii ce sa faci cand nu mai ai rabdare ? – Sa mai ai doar putintica rabdare.

6. Sa vizualizezi dorinta. Nu uita ca gandurile au puterea extraordinara de a se transforma in realitate. Cum iti sunt gandurile asa iti este si viata. Gandeste-te la visul tau ca si cum ar fi indeplinit deja, imagineaza-te in locul in care iti doresti sa ajungi, documenteaza-te, priveste- l cu ochii mintii.

7. Sa nu opui rezistenta. Nu incerca sa controlezi lucrurile, e un consum absolut inutil de energie, ele se desfasoara singure, lasa-l pe Univers sa lucreze prin tine. Lasa-l pe Dumnezeu sa faca «treaba ta», sigur o va face mai bine decat tine. Iti iei o povara imensa de pe umeri si o sa te simti mult mai usor si liber.

8. Sa nu existe egoism in dorinta ta iar indeplinirea ei sa nu insemne necazul altuia.

9. Sa nu dai visurilor o importanta capitala. Nimic ce apartine acestei lumi nu este important si etern, mai ales lucrurile materiale. Nu cadea in extrema de a transforma visul intr-o obsesie, si deci intr-o privare a libertatii tale.

10. Sa muncesti pentru dorinta ta. Inteleapta este vorba din batrani « Dumnezeu da, dar nu baga in traista ».

Noi, profanii muntelui, am ajuns cu cateva zile mai tarziu iar ei ne asteptau acolo. Dupa mult mers prin zapada,ceata celor 18 a ajuns pe seara la cabana. Stiti felicitarile acelea de Craciun, in care apare o cabana cu lumina lampii de gaz la geam, cu fumul iesind pe horn, inconjurata de zapada pana la geamuri, cu luna reflectandu-se in zapada si cativa brazi in departare? Ei bine, exact asa arata cabanuta noastra cand am ajuns pe seara cu rucsacii in spate la Stiol. In usa ne astepta Dan cu un pahar de tuica si cu fursecuri iar focul in soba trosnea ca la mama acasa.

Dupa 3 saptamani de Bucuresti si dupa congresul national ESPON de la Academia Romana, au rezultat multe reflectii asupra perceptiei spatiului conform mintii mele. De mai bine de 3 ani, spatiul este principalul meu obiect de studiu.
Nu pot zice decat ca acesta este creatia mintii noastre, deci este subiectiv. De aceea geografia moderna va fi una bazata pe principiul singularitatii si nu cel al generalizarii si abtractizarii, asa cum am fost obisnuiti.

Cel mai amuzant exemplu de creatie subiectiva de spatiu este "acasa". Unde este "acasa"? Marginea? Radauti? Iasi? Bucuresti?...Dubiusca? "Acasa"e in noi, il purtam acolo unde ne gasim linistea si echilibrul.

1. Hortus Botanicus.
You can't miss visiting a botanic garden in the "country of flowers". Loved this greenhouse full of butterflies.

2. Hermitage Amsterdam.
In collaboration with Hermitage Sankt Petersburg, the museum in Amsterdam holds an impressive modern art collection. (Picasso, Matisse, Andre Derain, Kandisnky and others.)

My favorite masterpieces in the museum:
a) Charles Guerin- Femme nue.
b) Wassily Kandinsky- Komposition IV.
c) Andre Derain- Le port

3.The Jewish Historical Museum.
The Jew community in The Netherlands was very large before World War II, when they were deported to Nazi camps. Therefore there are my sites in Amsterdam related to them (most noticeable Anne Frank's house).

4.The Portuguese Synagogue.
Jewish population expelled from Spain in 1492 fled to Portugal and then to Amsterdam where they founded a numerous community. It was my first time in a synagogue, and I was quite impressed, the atmosphere is totally different to a Christian church, it's gloomy and austere.

5. The Rembrandt House.
A very beautiful three-floor building, definitely not to miss. You learn a lot about Rembrandt's life and art.
Loved his studio. In my case, I started to really admire him the moment I saw "The Night Watch" in the Rijks Museum. Please do read more about his works.

6. Nemo Science Center.
I've visited the museum with a very kind Chinese girl who was studying in Amsterdam. The museum in hosted in a building with a very modern architecture. Wonderful place to learn practical science.

Lovely little space, where you can learn everything about tulips, most important their Central-Asian origins, and how did they get to be the symbol of the Netherlands.

Day 14 (The Museums Tour- Part I)

I decided to spend my last two days in Amsterdam visiting most of the museums. The following is a short review of them.

1. Rijks Museum.
You can find information about the history of The Netherlands but most important you can see the paintings of the Dutch Masters. After having studied then a little bit in Geneva I was happy to find here paintings of: Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Pieter de Hooch.
Photographing is forbidden.

2. Van Gogh Museum.
I remember that a few years ago on my annual wishlist it was written: want to visit van Gogh Museum. So it came true.

The visit to the museum is an ecstatic experience. Van Gogh's paintings are tactile. If a blind person would touch the canvas, he could feel the wind blowing in the wheat-field. The brushes are simply amazing. His work in the bright-colored Arles is full of life and passion. It makes me long for a place I've never seen. But maybe one day...
I was happy three find paintings I didn't know that I instantly adored:

3. The Diamonds Museum.

It's a small and elegant museum, but in the same time with an interesting scientific and historical information offer.

4. Cruise on the canals of Amsterdam (75 min on boat).

In a normal city, a sightseeing is by bus, in Amsterdam is by boat.

5. Van Loon Museum.

The house of the Amsterdam regent family of van Loon (founder of the Dutch East India Company).

6. FOAM- The Museum of Photography.

The collection was disappointing- mainly modern commercial photos. I did like the exhibition of an young Russian artist: Alexandr Gronsky.

7. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje (The Museum of Bags and Purses).

It's a nice place to have a cup of coffee.

8. Willet-Holthuysen Museum.

It is a very chic canal house of a wealthy upper-class family, art collectors who dedicated their lives to make their house public property after their death. Very beautiful place to see 17th century interiors.

Day 12 (Mastricht- Eindhoven)

Charlotte knew that my doctor recommended me swimming, so the next day she took me to this really cool swimming pool, plus as a present I received an all-included equipment. I've learnt new strokes and had lots of fun.

In the afternoon we took a train to Eindhoven to visit Charlotte's godparents, whom I've already met in Geneva. We've all had a very long walk in the countryside and then in the evening we returned home for dinner. It's amazing how many stories these people have to tell, after they've traveled all around the world by bike. Jan told me this really fascinating story about the time he went to Japan by train with the Trans-Siberian. Actually he did that 7-days journey by train 3 times. And this is just one of the many stories these people have to share. They're next expedition is a 4-week bike trip from Argentina to Chile, crossing the Andes. I've told them lots of stories about Romania, they were very interested in listening them.

In the evening they all accompanied me to the railway station to my train to Amsterdam. Hope to see them again.

Day 11 (Maastricht- Aachen- Koln)

From Utrecht, I went to Maastricht, to see my friend Charlotte.

The two days spent with her were full of surprises. First we took a long walk and saw the best of the city of Maastricht.

Then she had this idea: "let's go to Germany, to Aachen", and I'm always in when there's travelling involved:D While waiting for the bus for Aachen, Charlotte had another idea "why not go to Koln as well?", and I was like :" Koln? The real Koln?":)))

So we went by bus to Aachen were we saw the town a little bit and then we took a train to Koln. I have to say this but KOLN is amazing. Everything is at a hight scale in Koln, everything impressed by dimension.

Immediately you go out the railway station you see the cathedral, and it is by far the most impressive one I've seen (and happily I've seen many). We spent more than an hour inside because I insisted in assisting the mass and listening to this amazing sound of the organ in a Gothic cathedral.

You can't imagine how amazing is to see the warm dusk light pervading inside through the huge painted windows, to listen to the powerful sound of the organ bouncing on the thick stone walls, to smell the perfume of the candles lit for our beloved ones. Your mind is silent and your senses exult.

Then we went to the church of the consumerism: the shopping centers boulevard. A very long street very crowded with people eager to buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy..................BUY.

In the evening,we went to the shore of the Rhine river and gazed in silence at the sunset from this huge bridge over the river. The enormous Dom of Koln looked so little among the many large buildings around it. But in the colours of the dawn and under the huge rainbow on the sky everything was magical. I felt like a small particle of sand brought there by the wind and I was so happy just to be there. There was nothing more I could ask.

Before taking the train back we searched for a place where to eat apfelstudel , couldn't find a cheap one, so we satisfied with a cofee and an apple cake (as good as an apfelstudel).

We also saw a part of a really great photography exhibition: World Press Photo 2010. Stunning pictures.
So:- train back to Achen
- bus back to Maastricht
- bike back to Charlotte's place (where we arrived after midnight).

Day 10 (Utrecht with my Dutch friends)

Took an early train to Utrecht where I had my first post-Erasmus reunion with the Dutch part of our Erasmus-mafia- network :) (Keimpe, Rosanne and Wybe). It was a wonderful feeling to see us back together. I'm a little proud that this event happened due to my coming there. We rambled around the city center, had a tea in a rock-music bar, went to a tea shop then went to Rosanne's home where we had some of Wybe's "smoked tea" and listened to their stories about South-East Asia. Wybe spent 6 moths there and Rosanne 3 months, so there were lots of interesting stories to listen. In the evening: train to Maastricht.

Day 8 (The parks-tour)

I took advantage of the sun and decided to take a long walk in the parks of Amsterdam, enjoy the green grass, the blue sky and write down some thoughts. To be honest, I do prefer more the parks from London.
There are three big parks in the city:
- Oosterpark
- Vondelpark
- Rembrandpark

On my way to Vondelpark I entered this very cool bookshop specialized in maps, geographical literature and travelling guides where I lingered a little bit...more:P

Doamne, suntem niste furnicute in cautarea unei fericiri egoiste si trecatoare. Pun pariu ca ne privesti cateodata si zambesti cu blandete la graba noastra continua. E un zambet cald si intelept si plin de rabdare. Dupa dragoste, a doua calitate a lui Dumnezeu e rabdarea infinita. Dumnezeu nu bate niciodata din picior, nu se incrunta, nu-si incruciseaza bratele si nici nu se uita niciodata la ceas. Pentru El, nu ai intarziat niciodata. Paradoxal este ca noi credem mereu ca El intarzie pentru noi. Dumnezeu nu are programari sau liste de asteptare pentru ca pentru El timpul nu exista. Timpul este doar dusmanul omului, nu Dumnezeu a creat timpul, ci Omul, sunt convinsa de asta...Pacat ca uitam un lucru: El e in noi!

Day 7 (The churches tour in the city of prostitution)

I'm quite fascinated about religions and the best way to find more about them is visiting their places of worship. So, at my return to Amsterdam I dedicated one day to all of the important churches in the town plus 2 synagogues. 3 of the most important churches in Amsterdam are actually located in the Red Light District. Among the red rooms, the sex-shops, the weed stores I came across St. Nicolas Kerk, a catholic church devoted to Saint Nicholas the protector of the city.

The two other churches are Oude Kerke (The Old Church), and Nieuwe Kerk (The New Church), both protestant and neo-Gothic. In Jordan (a neighborhood in Amsterdam) I found another protestant church, WesterKerk. I can't say I like the very austere, rigid and cold protestant atmosphere in these churches

My favourite was a Jesuit church, the Krijtberg, dedicated to Saint Francis Xavier, a Jesuit missioner. In the evening I entered this beautiful building, which I thought to be a church but inside was actually a shopping center.This happened to several churches in the Netherlands. In Maastricht I discovered a Gothic church transformed in a 4 starts hotel.

On my last night spent in Groningen, we went to this really cool funfair in the park. The music was great and the lights were fairy-tale-like. There were lots of weird modern-art installations which somehow made me laugh. Bread and circus.

Day 5 (Hague and the North Sea)

Den Haag is the capital city of the Netherlands even though Amsterdam is the largest city of the country. In Haag we rented two bikes and visited the city on pedals. Binnenhof is a complex of buildings where the Parliament of the Netherlands is located. It doesn't surprise by size but it does have an interesting architecture. If you compare it to the Romanian Parliament House, you would say that the Netherlands is a small, poor country, but in fact the reality is that Romania has a huge Parliament House but its GDP is three times smaller than the Dutch one. Another interesting place we've seen is the Peace Palace, which houses the International Court of Justice.

In the afternoon we went to the North Sea seaside.

According to wikipedia: "Scheveningen is one of the eight districts of the Hague. Scheveningen is a modern seaside resort with a long sandy beach, an esplanade, a pier, and a lighthouse." For me it was in the beginning, an impossible word to pronounce then it transformed into a wonderful place to be. It was verrrrrry cold and peaceful in the same time; good place to fall in love with the sea.

Day 4 (The Dutch countryside)

Groningen is a rather small city, but it's nice that there aren't tourists everywhere as it in Amsterdam. Main attraction of the city is the Martini Tower which is in the center. After having seen it by night, me and Keimpe decided to see the city by day and then have a long bike-trip to the countryside. The Dutch people were definitely born on a bicycle, or on a boat, so it was quite hard to keep up the pace with Keimpe while cycling.
The Dutch countryside is really beautiful, flat green lands often crossed by water channels, lots of cows and sheep and from time to time a windmill.

Day 2 (Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to Amsterdam)

On my second day in The Netherlands I decided to introduce myself to the city of Amsterdam, thus I chose to have a looooong city walk. Maybe due to my egoistic nature I love discovering a city by foot on my own and fortunately I've done this with a couple of big cities in Europe. I've enjoyed "losing myself" on the narrow streets or the long channels.

Considering the fact that the Netherlands is so well known for its flowers, of course I spent an hour in their "Bloemenmarkt" (The Flower Market).

Then I met David, a Spanish couch-surfer who played for me at his hand-made flute,told me stories about his travelling and about the drugs in Amsterdam.

In the evening I ended up in the port of Amsterdam where the most important event of the year was happening: Sail 2010 (a huge parade of ships of all ages and types).

Basically, this is what happened:
Day 1: I leave Bucharest (38 degrees Celsius) for Amsterdam (19 degrees). Catch a cold. Dinner in a thai restaurant.
Day 2: Amsterdam city-walk-tour.
   Sail 2010.
Day 3: Train to Groningen. Bike-city-tour of Groningen.
   Dinner in a really cool Mauro restaurant.
Day 4: Dutch countryside bike-tour: lots of cows, windmills, canals, bridges.
Day 5: The Hague (capital city).

Day 6: Couch potato day in Groningen, Trying to get over my cold.

   Small trip to Germany: Maastricht-Aachen-Koln.
Day 12: Day spent swimming in the pool in Maastricht. Evening: train to Eindhoven and dinner with Charlotte's godparents.

Cand calatoresti singur, petreci multi timp cu mintea ta, dar oamenii pe care ii intalnesti si locurile pe care le vezi iau forma gandurilor si nu frustrarile, fricile sau tristetile trecutului. Cand calatoresti esti foarte prezent, esti in realitate.

Pentru mine Giumalaul a fost o premiera si in accelasi timp o supriza placuta. Muntele e un monolit care-ti testeaza rabdarea. La mare ai sentimentul nimicniciei tale de cum o vezi. Esti doar o frimitura, un fir de nisip. Muntele iti aduce aminte treptat ca esti om, ca ai limite, ca nu esti acolo "ca sa il infrunti" ci doar ca sa il rogi sa iti devina prieten.
Iar cand ajungi "acolo sus" iti reaminteste ca esti o particola neinsemnata a acestui infinit univers. Si asta-i toata frumusetea vietii. Calitatea ta de "componenta a acestui univers" iti permite sa fii orice iti doresti: o picatura de ploaie in cadere, un vultur in zbor, o raza de soare, um zambet cald...

Pentru 3 zile linistea a fost palpabila atat in exterior cat si in interior. Pentru 3 zile cortul a fost casa noastra, iar muntele cel mai bun prieten. Initial am venit in Rarau pentru Rarau Climbing Open, dar am ajuns la "spartul targului". Asa ca am hotarat sa descoperim muntele astfel: pentru 3 zile am facut doar trasee noi si lucruri in premiera pentru mine. Am doborat o idee preconceputa: Raraul poate fi surprizator!

Cu ocazia festivalului studenţesc FestudIS – 9-16 Mai 2010, Liga Studentilor de la Geografie si Geologie are placerea de a vă invita începând de miercuri, 28 Aprilie 2010 până pe 8 Mai 2010, în Corpul B al Universitatii „Al. I. Cuza”, etajul 1, la expoziţia de fotografie GeoBlitz 2010, ediţia a V-a. Expoziţia va fi mai apoi mutată la Casa de Cultură a Studenţilor, în holul de la etajul I pentru 2 săptămâni 9-22 Mai 2010.

Vor fi expuse un număr de 80 de fotografii realizate de 18 participanti, studenţi ai Facultăţii de Geografie şi Geologie pe tematica de anul acesta: “Jurnal de călătorie”. Majoritatea fotografiilor sunt realizate în călătoriile realizate de aceştia în străinătate. Criteriile după care au fost selectate fotografiile sunt următoarele: primul criteriu a fost cel al încadrării in tematica aleasă, urmează criteriul tehnic şi nu în ultimul criteriul artistic.

Pentru noi, cei de la Geografie, fotografia şi imaginea în general, au o însemnatate aparte, asta deoarece dorim să păstram frumuseţea locurilor prin care hoinărim mereu, zâmbetul oamenilor pe care îi întâlnim, libertatea munţilor, infinitul văzduhului si mai ales bucuria de a trăi. Expozitia noastră se vrea a fi pur si simplu o împărtasire a felului cum vedem noi lumea. Nu e un concurs de fotografie, deoarece nu competitivitatatea e ţelul nostru.

Sprijinul necesar ne este acordat de către: Facultatea de Geografie si Geologie, Casa de Cultură a Studenţilor ş.a.

According to wikipedia "Christopher Johnson McCandless
(February 1968 – August, 1992) was an American itinerant who adopted the name Alexander Supertramp and hiked into the Alaskan wilderness with little food and equipment, hoping to live a period of solitude. Almost four months later, weighing only 67 pounds (30 kg), he died of starvation near Denali National Park and Preserve.

After graduating in 1990, he donated the remaining $24,000 of the $47,000 given to him by family for his last two years of college to Oxfam International, a charity, and began traveling under the name "Alexander Supertramp". McCandless made his way through Arizona, California, and South Dakota, where he worked at a grain elevator. He alternated between having jobs and living with no money or human contact. He also paddled a canoe down remote stretches of the Colorado River to the Gulf of California. McCandless took pride in surviving with a minimum of gear and funds, and generally made little preparation.

For years, McCandless dreamed of an "Alaskan Odyssey" where he would live off the land, far away from civilization, and keep a journal describing his physical and spiritual progress as he faced the forces of nature. In April 1992, McCandless hitchhiked to Fairbanks, Alaska. He was last seen alive by Jim Gallien, who gave him a ride from Fairbanks to the Stampede Trail."

First of all I want to recommend the movie Terra Estrangeira:
a simple story, nice atmosphere, great music, eye-catching image and very profound ending. If you like the Portuguese culture, don't miss it. Here are some scenes from the movie and its soundtrack.

Second of all I want to recommend "the fado music".

I'm starting to "learn" the silence. It's not a lesson as it is "World War II" in History but rather as it is learning how to walk or to talk. I am the teacher and the student in the same time. So far this education is not satisfying me but I know in the end I will have learnt something very precious.

And while you were telling me all those things I was thinking " GOD, please this would be a perfect time to give me a good answer". IT didn't come, of course, because THAT WAS HIS ANSWER. It was rather something like "just shut the fuck up and listen to her" (except the 'the fuck' part maybe :))

How should I feel when my favorite author dies? I should feel nothing. It's just a physical death. Somewhere in "the catcher in the rye" he says that a book is good when you feel like calling the author and having a nice talk on the phone. God, I can't imagine how many times I wished I could talk to you. I remember imagining talking about so many things, most of them plain and useless (we both hate philosophical, pretentious discourse). Every time I was feeling down I thought: "I wish I could talk to you. I wouldn't say a lot of words, they're useless anyway". I know one thing: Salinger was one of the few men on this planet that are not afraid of solitude. He realized that living in the society alienates the crap out of you, this is why he chose to hide as far as he can from it.

I've posted this video on the Romanian Revolution because the pictures are horribly impressive. I was only two-year-old when the communism fell, so I am not entitled to talk about this. Still, there's just one thing I want to say. I want to thank to those who were my age back then and had the courage to die in order to gain freedom. Because of you I am now able to live a normal life in a free country. No, you didn't die in vain. There are still people who think of you and consider you heroes.
